Kueh Lapis Petits fours:
Kueh Lapis for Chinese New Year
(in the style of petits fours)

I have made the traditional kueh lapis for dessert for my family early reunion dinner.
Instead of serving the usual thin slices, I made them into petitsfours; bite size kueh lapis.
I prepared the layers of batter to just about half height of  a 8"x8"x3"square tin.
After baking, I cut them into shapes with the petitsfours cutters.

Cherry Clafoutis

Cherry Clafoutis is a French baked dessert.
The recipe used is taken from this wonderful book called French Food Safari .
It is also a SBS TV show(of the same name)hosted by Maeve O'Meara with chef Guillaume Brahimi.
In this recipe, chef Guillaume added almond meal in the batter.

Fresh from oven
I sprinkled the top with fine grains of sugar instead of
dusting with icing sugar.

Merry Christmas

In Taiwan, gingerbread houses made from real gingerbread seem to be the most popular decorations for Christmas.
They are seen in most hotels I visited; and they smell wonderful too.

The Fault In Our Stars Fondant cake

The fault in our stars is a book written by John Green, an American author.
This is my daughter's favourite book, so I decided to make a fondant replica of this book for her birthday.

Her other interests are also incorporated in this cake and she helped in making these items.

Banana Pecan Loaf

Adapted from the banana bread recipe taken from this site, Simply Recipes.
It is a simple recipe that required no mixer.
I just worked with only a mixing bowl and the loaf tasted great.
I added pecans and a dash of rum.
Great with a cup of coffee.

Chef Fondant cake

Worked with my daughter to put together this chocolate cake for her friend's birthday.
The cake is a table filled with food specially for an aspiring chef.

I covered the cake with blue fondant and bordered with balls of similar colour.
I made a red&white checkered fondant for the table cloth.

My daughter and I then worked on all the items using fondant and gumpaste.
